Acacia mangium commonly known as  black wattle is a tree which can grow up to a height of 25 to 35 meters, black wattle is a single stemmed shrub or tree evergreen in nature.

Acacia mangium was originally mentioned in Herbarium Amboinense in 1750 as Mangium montanum rumph but its name was later on changed to acacia in the year 1806.

This name was assigned to it  as it resembled mangge ( mangroves in Indonesia ).

Its wood is quite hard hence it is commonly  used in making durable furniture.
