Tamarindus indica, commonly known as tamarind, is a tropical tree native to Africa but widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions around the world.

Tamarind is a slow-growing, medium to large-sized tree that can reach heights of up to 25 meters (82 feet). It has a dense, spreading canopy with pinnate leaves and small, yellowish flowers.

The most distinctive feature of the tamarind tree is its fruit. The fruit is a brown, pod-like structure that contains a sweet-sour pulp surrounding hard, shiny seeds.
